he Waverly Special Response Team (S.R.T) is a special operations tactical unit that is trained to perform high-risk operations that fall outside of the abilities of regular officers. The team's duties include serving high-risk arrest and search warrants, subduing barricaded suspects, and engaging heavily-armed criminals. Made up of Waverly officers and sometimes working in conjunction with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the team is equipped with specialized equipment to handle out-of-the-ordinary situations.
The Waverly team is made up of officers who have been trained to handle these duties. A Special Response vehicle is employed to tranport the team and can be used as a mobile command center in emergency situations.
As of April 2010, the Waverly S.R.T. has served 5 search warrants, netting several felony arrests, and seizing narcotics and other items used in the trafficking of those illegal drugs.
The team undergoes training on a regular basis and receives frequent specialized training in order to keep the members sharp and prepared to undertake their duties.
Captain Tim South and Detective Jeremy Masters process a scene after the execution of a search warrant.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol frequently assists the Waverly SRT with search warrants by providing perimeter security and other duties. OSP and the WPD have established a strong partnership in the community.
