Crime Prevention Unit/
Neighborhood Crime Watch
The Waverly Crime Prevention Unit was established in 2010 in an attempt to lower the city's crime rate through active patrol with an emphasis on residential areas. The unit works hand-in-hand with the Waverly Crime Watch to be effective in stopping crime before it occurs.

The Crime Prevention Unit uses what is known in policing as preventive patrol, a PROACTIVE method of working. While the mere presence of police in an area may not deter crime, aggressive patrol may make a difference. Proactive police operations focus on the concentration of crime in certain offenders, places, and victims. Proactive operations include using decoys, going undercover, raiding, relying on informants, stopping and frisking suspects, shadowing repeat offenders, policing repeat-complaint locations, and saturating an area with police to maintain order.

The unit is made up of Ptl. Dustin Magill and Officer Jared Roe, both of whom coordinate Waverly's Neighborhood Watch Program.

To contact the unit with any concerns or ideas for specific patrols, email dmagill@waverlypd.net or jroe@waverlypd.net or call the department at 947-2179.
