he Waverly Neighborhood Crime Watch continues to grow. Meeting are now held on the last Monday of every month. Ptl. Dustin Magill is doing a great job with the Neighborhood Watch and has expanded the group to over 25 members since the first meeting in April. The next meeting is scheduled for August 30th and will be at 6 p.m. instead of the usual time of 7 p.m. Lt. Lee Darden, Post Commander of the Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, will be the guest speaker. We will also be doing a demonstration on drunk driving where participants will be able to drive our golf cart with a pair of goggles on that simulate what a drunk driver sees and encounters while driving a vehicle under the influence.
We would like to encourage anyone in the city to attend these meetings and join the Neighborhood Watch program. The more eyes we have on the street, the more

crimes we can solve and stop before they are committed. We encourage anyone in the city, whether a neighborhood Crime Watch member or not, to call in and report any suspicious activity. If you wish, you can make the report anonymously. Just tell the dispatcher that you do not wish to give your name when you call in.
Also, we have a number of parents who are concerned about drug activity in and around the Walnut Street Park. I have personally spoken to parents who say they are to the point of being afraid to take their children to the park because of possible drug sales and usage in the park. This park was established so that children can have a safe and enjoyable place to play. It is totally unacceptable to me that decent, law-abiding citizens are telling me they are afraid to take their children to the park because of the riff-raff that is coming in to sell and use drugs. We are focusing our attention on this area and anyone who is caught using drugs or alcohol or selling drugs will be arrested, jailed and permanently banned from the park property. Anyone who is banned and is later caught on the premises will be charge with Criminal Trespass and taken to jail. Please do not hesitate to call the police department if you see or suspect illegal activity in the park area.
